'By far the best bass trombonist I've ever worked with, his tone is unmatched, his abilities have no boundaries.' - Rob Mitchell (Abstract Orchestra).

Richard Jones is a composer, arranger, orchestrator and trombonist based in London, UK. At the age of 18 he was appointed bass trombonist of the world famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band (based just 20 minutes from his hometown of Pontefract), following this he attended the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester studying trombone, composition, arranging and jazz improvisation and it was during this time where he discovered his passion for writing. Richard's first original composition and music video with Cold As You Like Big Band gained over 20K views on the social media page Brass Bible.

Whilst a student and since graduating, Richard has been fortunate to have toured/recorded with a hugely diverse list of artists in a variety of stylistic arenas including Slum Village, Joe McElderry, Ray Quinn and Lesley Garrett. He has also worked with many of the UKs leading orchestras/ensembles including The Hallé, Raymond Gubbay's Manchester Concert Orchestra, Abstract Orchestra, London Jazz Orchestra & National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO). Notable highlights so far include everything from performing Brassed Off Live! with Grimethorpe Colliery Band, recording an album with X-Factor 2006 finalist Ray Quinn, to touring and recording a double album with US Hip-Hop legends Slum Village as a member of Abstract Orchestra. As a trombonist he has regularly appeared at some of the top venues in the UK including the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, The Sage Gateshead, Bridgewater Hall and The Jazz Café Camden.

More recently, Richard has focused the majority of his energy on composing, arranging and orchestration. Whether he finds himself writing for big bands, chamber groups, brass bands or even large-scale film orchestra, Richard is equally comfortable with all and will deliver his best work towards your musical project.
